Kathy Thompson

Kathy Jean Boyd Thompson of Convoy, OH went home to be with Jesus on January 28, 2022 at her residence surrounded by the love of her children after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was born on August 28, 1951 in Van Wert to Harold and the late Patricia (Potter) Boyd. On October 7, 1972, Kathy married the love of her life, Byron Thompson who preceded her in death on September 8, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her sister Judith Bridges, in-laws Bernard and Wilma Black, and Dr. Earl Black.

Kathy is the mother of Doug (Kim) Thompson, Amanda (Mark) Tice, Hayley (Mathew) Neumeier and Vanessa Menke. She is Grammy to Chase, Dustiny, Makenna, Zachary, Ryleigh, Colten, Maverick, Braxton, Kian, Jake, Natalie, Luke and Saige. Also surviving are her father Harold Boyd Jr and siblings Harold (Jean) Boyd, Donald (Jackie) Boyd and Dianne Brock; nieces and nephews.

Kathy was a 1969 graduate of Lincolnview and obtained degrees from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Saint Marys of the Woods College and Marygrove College. Kathy began her career as a social worker then later became a teacher. She retired from Lincolnview Schools after 19 years of teaching. After retirement, Kathy pursued her dream of being a published author. Kathy shared her love of God and wrote inspirational stories and devotionals. Her stories can be found in Guidepost, Women's World and Chicken Soup for the Soul to name a few. Her novel was in process.

Kathy loved her family dearly. She loved vacationing to the beach and spending time at the lake. Two of her favorite hobbies were reading and antique shopping. She enjoyed her Bible study group, writer's group and loved the time spent with so many dear friends. She will be missed by many.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home 722 S. Washington St. Van Wert, OH 45891 with Rev Jeff Millay, officiating. Interment will follow in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Township Hwy 176 Convoy, OH 45832.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on February 01, 2022 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Life Outreach International or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
