VAN WERT, Ohio - Larry Duane Wortman, 70, of Van Wert, went to be with his Lord & Savior at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Van Wert Hospital.
He was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Thelma (Brugh) Wortman and Ray Wortman.
His wife, Marilyn (Converse) Wortman, survives of Van Wert. They were married March 6, 1966.
Other survivors include his children: Richard L. Buggle of Charleston, S.C., and Jeffery (Julie) Buggle of Van Wert; sisters: Betty (Dave) Mollenkopf of Rochester, Ind., Virginia Dowler and Arlene Gamble, both of Van Wert; grandchildren: Carmen, Kiefer (Shelby), Michael and Sarah Buggle, Tiffany (Nick) McIntosh, Melissa (Derek) Terhark and Ashley Collins, and four great-grandchildren: Abram and Brody Collins, and Natalie and Griffin Terhark.
He retired as an over-the-road truck driver. He attended Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert. He was an accomplished athlete at Convoy Union High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Special Forces Green Beret. During his military service, Larry also served his country at the Pentagon. Larry loved life, laughs, hugs and family.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Steve Savage will officiate.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials may be directed to the family for Upward Basketball Scholarships.
