Leah M. Wendel, 83, of Berne, Indiana, formerly of Chattanooga, Ohio, died at 1:07 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at The Chalet Village in Berne, Indiana. She was born in Ohio City, Ohio on November 25, 1928, the daughter of Win and Mollie (Mottinger) Rickard. On March 26, 1950, she married John L. Wendel, who preceded in death on December 31, 1992. She was a homemaker and lived in the area her entire life. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she also was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Guild. Surviving are two sons: Charles Wendel of Decatur, Indiana and Jerry (Kelly) Wendel of Celina, Ohio; three daughters: Karen Wendel and Cheryl Moser, both of Berne, Indiana, and Peg (Wenzel) Martin of Freeport, Grand Bahama. Two grandchildren, Eric (Trisha) Moser of Berne and Jennifer (David) Cashdollar of Fort Wayne, and four great grandchildren, Landry and Gracie Moser of Berne, and Sarah and Emma Cashdollar of Ft. Wayne, also survive. A brother, Robert Rickard survives in Van Wert, Ohio. Deceased are a brother, Doyt Rickard and four sisters, Mabel Urton, Voyla Fleming, Cleo Kiracofe, and Marcello Stellato. Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, in Rockford, Ohio. Burial will be in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Rockford, Ohio. Friends may call at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, on Thursday from 5-8 p.m., and on Friday, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
