Leona Stevens

Leona Stevens, 71, longtime resident of Van Wert, passed away at 10:25 PM on July 09, 2022 at Vancrest of Van Wert. She was born on September 22, 1950, in Dizney, KY, to the late Horm and Rosa (Quillan) Thompson.

She attended Victory COG. As an art enthusiast, Leona loved painting and drawing and she even learned to read brail while caring for her aunt. She enjoyed fishing and traveling, with Virginia and Kentucky being her favorite destinations. Leona could also be found performing her own auto repairs or taking apart and rebuilding motors.

But most of all, Leona will be remembered for her big heart, her compassion and her drive. She would do anything for anyone and would accomplish anything she set out to do.

Surviving are her daughter, Loretta (Carlos) Brownlee of Canal Winchester; son, Bobby (Robin) Griggs) Thompson of Decatur, IN; brothers: Art (Betty) Thompson of Cloverdale; John (Madge) Thompson of Grover Hill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Stevens, brothers: James and Harry Thompson, and sister, Ruth McMinn.

A memorial service will be at 5 PM on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S. Washington Street, Van Wert with visitation two hours prior to the service, from 3 to 5 PM. Bishop Larry Martinez will officiate.
