MIDDLE POINT, Ohio - Leonard B. Stemen, 85, of Middle Point, died at 6:23 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was born April 23, 1925, in Washington Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Ethel (Jenkins) Stemen and Delmar Stemen. On June 14, 1946, he married Mildred J. (Sites) Stemen. She died May 7, 2001.
Survivors include a son: Larry B. Stemen of Van Wert, three sisters: Marilyn (Dorce) Burkley of Canfield, Ohio, Norma Wollet of Middle Point and Joan Alt of Van Wert, and three grandchildren: Lindy (Eric) Schwab, Melissa Stemen and Christine Stemen.
He was preceded in death by a brother: John Stemen.
He was owner/operator of Stemen Stockyards, Middle Point; a member of Van Wert Harness Horsemen Association, United States Trotters Association and Ohio Standard Bred Breeders. A disabled veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II, he was a lifetime member of Ohio City American Legion and a member of Middle Point AM Vets as well as a member of the former Middle Point Presbyterian Church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Ohio City American Legion
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at the funeral home.
