Leroy G. Comer, 92, of Van Wert, died at 8:22 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert. He was born March 26, 1920, in Hudson, Michigan, the son of the late Grant and Emma (Deardorff) Comer. He married Garnett A. (Sowers) Comer, who preceded him in death on April 11, 2008. Mr. Comer was a salesman at Gunsett's Hardware and Bagley Builders for many years and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and belonged to American Legion Post 178 and Moose Lodge 1320, both in Van Wert. Survivors include three children, James Comer of Van Wert, Diane (Larry) Games of Mason, and Jan (Brent) Van Horn of Pickerington; a sister, Izola Plasterer of Decatur, Ind.; four grandchildren, Allison (Nicolas) Vu and Mark (Martine) Games, Joel Van Horn and Drue (Rebecca) Van Horn; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Tino and Irelyn Van Horn. Three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Guy Comer, also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Tuesday, November 13, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. William Haggis officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military rites performed by the combined honors units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert. Calling hours are from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials: St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
