Lester E. "Butch" Fisher, 69, of Van Wert, died at 2:52 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1947, in Van Wert, to Mentra (Beech) Ross and Bernard E. Fisher. Her parents are deceased. His stepmother, Esther Fisher, survives of Scott.
His wife, Sandra (Leiter) Fisher, survives of Van Wert. They were married July 23, 1976.
Other survivors include his children, Leslie J. (Collin) Leaser and Carol L. Blackmore, both of Van Wert, Dena K. (Donnie) Strickland of Ohio City, Ohio, Don (Michelle) Sanderson of Bethel, Ohio, Mary E. Thatcher of Paris, Texas, Frank Ross of Clyde, Ohio; sisters, Diana Mace and Brenda (Kevin) Welker, both of Van Wert, Beth (Larry) Offerle of Paulding, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren.
He worked with Union Quarries and Vanco Machine for many years before retiring from Federal Mogul in 2013 after 22 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during Viet Nam. He was a member of the Van Wert VFW, American Legion and of the UAW.
Service will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, with military honors rendered by the combined units of the United States Army, Van Wert American Legion and VFW to follow. Private interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at the funeral home.
