Lewis Hammons

VAN WERT, Ohio - Lewis P. Hammons, 93, Van Wert, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Mary (Dunlap) Hammons and Harvey Hammons. His wife, Margaret R. (Waltz) Hammons, died Sept. 11, 2007. They were married April 10, 1937.
Survivors include a son: Lewis DeWayne Hammons of Van Wert; one grandson: Randall Hammons of Van Wert; two great-grandchildren: Kyle and Alex Hammons of Van Wert, and two great-great-grandchildren: Conner and Ryan Hammons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He retired from Continental Can Company, Van Wert. He was a former member of Mt. Pleasant E.U.B. Church in Van Wert County and a member of the Van Wert Moose Lodge and N.R.A.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio.
Friends may call from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday Sept. 30 at the funeral home.
