Linda Ann "Ann" (Evans) Carter, of Van Wert, died Jan. 11, 2017, after living 10 years with cancer. She was born the third of twelve children on July 3, 1944, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to the late Joseph H. and Evelyn M. (Gerhardt) Evans. On May 27, 1967, she married Don T. Carter and he survives of Van Wert. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, Don, and their children, Samuel L. Carter of Beloit, Wisconsin, Karen L. (Todd) Wise of Chillicothe, Ohio, Gail M. (Greg) Eibling of Van Wert, and Matthew D. (Ashli) Carter of London, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Noah and Annie Carter, Jacob, Zachary and Isaac D'Amico, Tylor and Morgan Pruden and Peyton Eibling, Andrew, Samuel, Jack and Benjamin Carter; four great-grandchildren, Ella, Adalynn, Liam and Sophia; five surviving siblings, J. Michael Evans, J. Steven Evans, Phillip R. (Diane) Evans, Martha L. Klingshirn and Rose M. (Douglas) Williams, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Barbara J. Evans, William M. Evans, Richard D. Evans, Rita E. Krammes, David J. Evans and Janet K. Darst; two nieces, one nephew, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
Ann graduated from Miami Trace HS in 1962 and from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing in 1965. In school and throughout life she dedicated herself to hard work and excellence while putting others before herself.
Ann was a high achiever at work and at play. She was an avid runner having run four marathons including the Boston Marathon in 1987. She and Don also enjoyed golfing, working out at the YMCA and entertaining together.
Ann was a loving wife mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful sister and friend to many. Ann left a lasting, positive impression on those whose lives she touched.
Ann lived a life full of joy through caring for others at home and while working as a nurse at Van Wert County Hospital. After her retirement Ann continued to do volunteer work at the hospital as well as at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church where she and Don have been active members since they moved to Van Wert in 1970.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. A Rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
