VAN WERT, Ohio - Lois Jean Davies went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert, Ohio.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1922, in Van Wert, to J. Herbert and Bernice (Ringwald) Davies, the eldest of five daughters. She taught fourth grade at Anthony Wayne Elementary School in Van Wert City School system for 42 years. She was a 1940 graduate of Ridge High School and a 1943 graduate of Bowling Green State University.
Lois Jean was a lifetime member of the former Middle Point Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and summer vacation Bible school leader. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Van Wert Retired Teachers organization, BGSU Alumni Association, and Van Wert County Church Women United, serving as secretary for several years. She was a church and community volunteer for several years. She was also a member of the YWCA where she lived for a few years of her early teaching career, meeting many dear friends at that time.
Lois Jean was born of the Welsh heritage, and spent much time throughout her life obtaining and compiling family genealogy. She loved music and enjoyed reading. Her farm home and wooded surroundings gave her much enjoyment for her 88 years. She enjoyed traveling with family and college friends to various parts of the country. She was an avid photographer, and her family is richly blessed by the family photos and slides she has taken through the years. She loved her family, church family, dear friends, and her cat, Miss Kitty.
She is survived by three sisters; Mary Louise Voltz of Frankfort, Ind., and Shirley Harter and Marion Moorman of Van Wert. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Wuttke, a nephew, Danny Voltz, and three brothers-in-law, Bob Voltz, Paul Wuttke, and Dale Harter.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, Ohio. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, Ohio.
