VAN WERT, Ohio - Lulu Glee (Shook) Ayers, 86, of Van Wert, died at 9:47 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Vancrest Healthcare Center, Van Wert.
She was born April 26, 1926, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Bernice L. (Weyer) Shook and Harvey D. Shook.
Her husband, Walter S. Ayers, died Dec. 31, 1999. They were married Aug. 3, 1946.
Survivors include a son-in-law: Michael (Linda) Zartman; brother: Rev. Robert (Nancy) Shook of Willshire, Ohio; sisters: Mary Alice (Charles) Sanders of Van Wert, Rose Elaine (Charles) Lichtenberger of Wren, Ohio, and Jacqueline (John) Hunter of Glenmore, Ohio; grandchildren: Steve, Scott and Dan (Jessie) Zartman; stepgrandchild: Debbie (Jim) Evans; great-grandchildren: Cassie, Sadie and Joseph Zartman, and stepgreat-grandchildren: Naomi and Wyatt Evans. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her children: Richard E. Ayers and Sandra K. (Ayers) Zartman, a brother: Russel H. Shook, and a sister: Kathryn Hoverman.
She was a homemaker, attended Ridge High School, was a Salvation Army member and bell ringer for over 10 years, and attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. The Revs. Robert Shook and Rev. Josh Tissot will officiate. Burial will be in Greenbriar Cemetery in rural Van Wert County, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Salvation Army or to the family.
