Marilyn Sue Bartz of Van Wert, passed away with family by her side at 2:15 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016, at Vancrest of Convoy, Ohio. She was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Van Wert, to Manota (Thompson) Edwards and Kenneth B. Edwards. Her parents preceded her in death.
Her husband, Verne Cadell Bartz, died Nov. 17, 2014. They were married July 27, 1946.
Survivors include children, Tom E. (Tammy) Bartz of rural Grover Hill, Ohio, and Joan K. Bartz of Selah, Washington; a brother, Franklin Bert (Grace) Edwards of Grover Hill, Ohio; grandchildren, Brandon Bartz and Kristy Grindell; stepgrandchildren: Chad Jay, Matthew Jay, and Kristen Maenle; six great-grandchildren, and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Two stepgrandchildren, Anthony Jay and Jennifer Jay, are both deceased.
She retired as a restaurant manager at Van Wert Holiday Inn and was a licensed beautician. Susie was known as a loving and selfless person who always put the wants and needs of her family first. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always loved to cook for others. One of her favorite things to do was wintering in Cocoa Beach, Florida, where she was able to enjoy her long walks on the beach.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Greg Wack will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Convoy.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Salvation Army Food Pantry.
