VAN WERT, Ohio - Martha J. Carter, 80, Van Wert, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Van Wert, to the late Mary B. (Howick) Stoops and A. Holmes Stoops. She married Richard A. Edwards who preceded her in death. Then she married William E. Carter who also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children: Lu Ann (Mike) McDonough of Van Wert and Debbie (Jody) Conley of New Haven, Ind. and grandchildren: Kimberly McDonough, Patrick Conley and Adam (Melinda) Conley.
She was preceded in death by a brother: James Stoops.
She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for Rose Insurance in Van Wert for many years. She was a member of Van Wert American Legion Auxiliary. She had many loving extended family and friends. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends - especially her grandchildren and daughters who were her best friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
