Martin "Marty" T. McDonough II, 89, of Van Wert, passed away on January 12, 2014 at 4:43AM at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert, Ohio. Marty was born on the 4th of July, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest son of the late Martin T. McDonough and Bertha (Fey) McDonough.

Marty was a proud member of the US Air Force and flew in the B29 Superfortress (in the Pacific) during WWII. Marty married Betty J. (Deer) in 1947 and moved "out West" to Van Wert after graduating Watchmaking School where he worked as a Jeweler and repaired watches for many years, at what later became Laudick's Jewelry and later, in his own business.

Marty, also known as "Mac", is survived by his wife, Betty and their four children: Sharon Hoyng, Gastonia, NC; Marty McDonough, Groveport, OH; Michael (Luann) McDonough & Dan (Cheryl) McDonough of Van Wert, OH. Nine Grandchildren and four Great-Grandchildren survive. Marty was preceded in death by his sister Loretta Curran and brother Jack McDonough.

Marty was active in many community organizations over the years including United Way, Toastmasters, Civic Theater, Jaycee's, ELKS, Van Wert Peony Parade and was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, OH. Marty was also a member of the Van Wert American Legion Post 178. Marty was known for wearing floppy hats and his patriotic red, white and blue suspenders.

Calling hours will be 10AM to Noon Saturday JANUARY 25, 2014 @ Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, OH. Funeral Mass will be 12:30PM Saturday January 25, 2014 @ St. Mary of The Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, OH where Father Stan Szybka will be officiating.

The Preferred Memorials are to the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert, OH.
