VAN WERT - Mary E. Van Etten, 89, of Van Wert, passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice.
She was born on January 23, 1922 in Wapakoneta, Ohio to Adrian M. and Blanche M. (Bryan) Meier, both of whom are deceased. She married Thomas D. Van Etten, Jr., who preceded her in death.
She is survived by Thomas (Trudy) Webster of Van Wert, Sharon (Walter) Poling of Van Wert, and Patricia (Kraig) Shafer of Cairo, Ohio; a sister, Drusilda (Terry) Kah of Findlay, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Meier, Wapakoneta, OH; seven grandchildren, 24 great and step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Meier.
Van Etten was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Van Wert. She worked at Aeroquip Corporation in Van Wert, Ohio for 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, was a lifelong knitter, also enjoyed traveling and in her younger days, and enjoyed dancing with her husband.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Will Haggis officiating. A burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Visitation will take place at 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
