VAN WERT, Ohio - Mary L. Gear, 86, of Van Wert, formerly of New Haven, Ind., died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Van Wert Hospital, Van Wert.
She was born June 2, 1926, in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Wilma (Kerns) DuVall and Albert DuVall.
Her husband, Jack R. Gear, died June 15, 2004. They were married Aug. 10, 1947.
Survivors include her children: John (Donna) Gear of Dallas, Ga., Mark Gear and Dale Gear, both of Middle Point, Ohio, and Carol Gear of Auburn, Ind.; two sisters: Alice (Paul) Shank of Middle Point and Ruth Tribolet of Van Wert; eight grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Carl Gear, two brothers: Otis and Harold DuVall, and a sister: Margaret Horstman.
She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert and United Methodist Women. She was an American Red Cross volunteer at Van Wert Hospital, volunteered at the church United Clothing Bank, was an avid IU basketball fan and enjoyed traveling.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Revs. Paul Miller and Jason Gear will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is First United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
