Mary Kay Stegaman, 77, of Van Wert, passed away at 7:25 AM on September 26, 2020 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice. She was born on August 12, 1943, in San Pedro, California, to the late Edmund & Rose Mary (Grothaus) Wurst. On October 12, 1973, she married the love of her life, Richard Stegaman. Together, they shared many years of memories.
Mary Kay earned her Masters in Education and retired from Delphos St. John's after 44 years of teaching.
Mary Kay enjoyed going to River Trail Campground II where she and Richard have had a permanent spot for years. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Mahjong with her friends, Sudoku puzzles to "keep her brain young," scratching off instant lottery tickets, even if they weren't winners, and volunteering her time at food pantries and helping others.
Of all her hobbies and activities, Mary Kay cherished time with her family and keeping up with her grandsons most of all.
She is survived by her husband, Richard of Van Wert; son, Craig Stegaman; daughters: Christine (Brent) Davis; Carla (Adam) Welfle; brothers: Ron (Carol) Wurst, Roch (Phoebe) Wurst; sisters: Anne Stegaman, Marge (Marvin) Ricker; grandchildren: Levi, Remington, Andrew, Wesson and Luke; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Kay was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Anthony Stegaman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 2020 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Bohnsack celebrating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 01, 2020 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home 722 S. Washington St. Van Wert, OH 45891.
