Max R. Van Metre, 69, Van Wert, died at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born April 8, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late Norma M. (Stemen) Van Metre and Merril G. Van Metre.
His wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Ann (Swany) Van Metre, survives of Van Wert.
Other survivors include: children: Gary (Jennifer) Van Metre of Van Wert and Theresa (Todd) Hill of Scott, Ohio; one sister: Judy (Dick) Miller of Van Wert; special sister-in-law: Darlene Van Metre of Van Wert, and grandchildren: Rebbecca (Ronze) Gengo, Michelle Hill, Amanda Hill and Kyle Loshe.
He was preceded in death by brothers: E. Gordon and Thomas N. Van Metre.
He retired from Federal Mogul, Van Wert, after 41 A½ years of service. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Van Wert. He was also a graduate of Van Wert High School, a member of The Road Sir's Car Club, the Van Wert Area Cushman Club and the Vintage Motor Bike Club and was a former member of the Gold Wing Road Rider's Association. He loved showing his street rods and vintage scooters at the various car shows in the area.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
