Maxine Morgan

VENEDOCIA, Ohio a�" Maxine H. Morgan, 95, of Venedocia, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:04 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice surrounded by her loving children.

She was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Ora Etta (Sherrick) Halverson Ives and H. Harrison Halverson.

Her husband, Edgar L. Morgan, died Dec. 6, 1990. They were married Oct. 19, 1940, in Venedocia.

Survivors include children: William E. "Bill" (Marilyn) Morgan of Venedocia, David H. (Susan) Morgan of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Marilyn (James) Overholt of Middle Point, Ohio, and Carolyn Girod of Van Wert, Ohio; nine grandchildren: Christopher (Gwen) Overholt, Curtis (Julie) Overholt, Stephanie Girod, Jacqueline (Tim) Miller, Anne (David) Harting, Jen (Brent) Wright, Sam (Jacci) Morgan, Will Morgan, Sarah (Michael) Steinberg; 20 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Daryl Girod, and two sisters.

She retired in 1978 from Central Mutual Insurance Company, Van Wert, after 24 years of service. She was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, Venedocia, where she had been active in all aspects of the church, including teaching Sunday School for many years and serving as the first female elder of the church.

She was a former member of the Van Wert Woman's Club, former president of Presbyterial and former member of Van Wert YWCA. She was a member of the Lady Board of Managers at the Van Wert County Hospital. She was an avid reader and a 1936 graduate of Van Wert High School.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Salem Presbyterian Church, Venedocia. The Rev. Thomas Emery will officiate. Burial will be in Venedocia Cemetery, Venedocia.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials may be directed to the Major Improvement Fund of Salem Presbyterian Church or to the Brumback Library.
