Merrill Good

Merrill M. Good, 97, of Van Wert, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Hearth and Home of Van Wert. He was born July 25, 1919, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to Hulda (Wallace) Good Johnson and Merrill M. Good. His parents are deceased.

His wife, Ruth C. (Beery) Good, survives of Van Wert. They were married March 28, 1942.

Other survivors include children, Susan J. (Larry) Linton and John Dean (Becky) Good, both of Van Wert, and Janet G. Hege of Kingsland, Georgia; sisters, Alice "Joey" (Jim) Hume of Jacksonville, Florida, and Patty (Dean) Miller of Lenoir City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Faye (Greg) Mohr, Brenda (Mike) Dull, Laura (Todd) Fox, Dale (Courtney) Linton, Amy (Kerry) Koontz, Angela (Brian) Laker, Alyssa Good, Abby (JP) Doozan, and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ron D. Hege, and brothers, Eugene, Max and Rudel Good.

Merrill was a self employed farmer, salesman and owner/operator of Lamps By Merrill Manufacturing until his retirement in 1980. He was a member at First Baptist Church in Van Wert and a U.S. Army veteran who served during WWII. He enjoyed woodworking, wood carving and painting and was an avid traveler.

Service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Steve Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Preferred memorials may be directed to State of the Heart Care or First Baptist Church.
