Mona loved life on the farm. She grew up and spent most of her years on Strable Road where she raised five children and enjoyed gardening. She loved her church and her church family. She served as the organist or assistant organist and pianist for more years than anyone living can remember. Her brief time away from Rockford included attending the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, studying at and graduating from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, teaching in Michigan and a short stay in Alexandria, Virginia, where her husband completed his service in the US Army Corps of Engineers. For a short time, she held the position of Music and English teacher at Rockford and Neptune schools, but above all, preferred to be a stay at home mom.
She left the farm after the death of her husband, Roy Jr. (2016), to experience life in town. She thoroughly enjoyed living in Rockford because she could still keep a small garden, receive frequent visits from friends and family, and meet new friends and neighbors. Mona never knew a stranger. Roy and Mona believed in their family, their church and their community. As a widow, she continued to be an upbeat, smiling, God-fearing woman. Her zest for life will be greatly missed.
Services for Mona will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:30 PM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9380 Wabash Road, Rockford, Ohio, with Pastor Robin Owen officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 2 PM prior to the service on Saturday.
