Olive Lay

SCOTT, Ohio - Olive Maxine (Stemen) Miller Lay went to join her Lord and Savior on Aug. 23, 2013.

She was born Nov. 2, 1923, to Lehr and Mamie Alvertus (Bowersock) Stemen in Jackson Township. On June 15, 1941, she married Carl Miller who died May 15, 1950.On June 13, 1952, she married Richard Lay, who preceded her in death on July 3, 2007. Also preceding her in death were three brothers: Nick Stemen, Donald Stemen and Harold Stemen.

Mrs. Lay is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Phil) McClure and her sons, Mr. Eddy (Lynn) Miller and Mr. Stephen (Angie) Lay. She was dearly loved by her eight grandchildren: Kim (Rick) Snyder, Kathy (Chris) Dunno, Kris (Jim) Rea, Karla (Rod) Bowersock, Scott (Ashley) Miller, Riann (Josh) Stetler, Caitlyn Lay and Nickie Lay, and her 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lay was a homemaker and a school bus driver for Lincolnview Local Schools for 25 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Van Wert Woman's Club, the Hoaglin Jackson Sunrise Club and the local Red Hat Society. She enjoyed a long and blessed life with her family and dog, Mindy.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Will Haggis will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.
