Olive M. Schuman, born June 26, 1916, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at her home surrounded by family. She was compassionate, nurturing, wise, loving and an inspiration to the lives she touched.
Olive was the youngest of six children born to Pearl Knott and Katie Wallace. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, William M. Coyle, an infant son Dean D. Coyle and her husband of 36 years, Walter G. Schuman. She was employed at National Seal before moving to Larwill, Ind., where she and Walter enjoyed farming, gardening, Federal Land Bank business trips, wintering in North Carolina and fishing trips at Hiawatha Beach Resort, Leach Lake at Walker, MN.
She loved and lived for her family, the mother of Jeraldine L. Thomas, Stephen M. Coyle and Mrs. Mary (Donald) Chiles, all of Van Wert. Grandmother of Teresa & (Eric) Klinker, Kim & (Rob) Beilfuss, Mike & (Deb) Chiles, Tim & (Kelli) Chiles, Dan & (Danni) Chiles. One grandchild, Lori Thomas, deceased at birth. A great-grandmother of Cody & Courtney Klinker, Jessi & Alyssa Beilfuss, Cade, Gage, Dane, Olivia, Luke, Haley & Carley Chiles.
Other family includes her stepson, Larry, deceased, his widow, Betty Schuman, step-children Keith & (Priscilla) Schuman, Duane & (Erin) Schuman, Nelson & (Candy) Schuman, Chris & Aggie Schuman and Jana & (Mike) MacFarlane. Step-great-grandchildren include: Caleb, Tiffany, Lexie, Danielle, Israel, Abigail, Rebecca, Jordan, Austin, Ashley Schuman, Cameron, Amelia, Avery, and Brooklyn MacFarlane, all of Indiana.
She is also survived by a niece, Cleota Knott, other nieces and nephews, their families and many other loving family members and friends.
"Olive will be remembered by her family and numerous friends as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and true friend. She found joy in caring for and loving others and putting their needs first. She has set a loving example for her family and friends to follow."
Visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, 722 S. Washington Street, Van Wert, Ohio. The service will take place 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the funeral home with Reverend Paul Miller and Pastor Greg Wack officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Community Health Professionals In Home Hospice. Interment at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert following the service.
