Opal Germann

September 27, 1921 — April 11, 2014

VAN WERT, Ohio — Opal F. Germann, 92, of Van Wert, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Van Wert, to the late Elnora (Stemen) Leiter and Elmer Leiter.

Her husband, Raymond “Mike” Germann, died July 12, 1997. They were married Aug. 7, 1939.


Survivors include children: Barbara Torstad of Northport, N.Y., Beverly (James) Imler of Tega Cay, S.C.; a brother: Fred Leiter of Van Wert; three grandchildren: Katherine Farrington, Raymond Maloney and Randy Imler, and great- grandchildren: Peri Imler, Lane Imler, John Ross Imler, Raymond Maloney, Joshua Maloney, Brenna Farrington, Ryan Farrington, and Connor Farrington.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister, and a grandchild: John Imler.

She was a homemaker and had also worked at National Seal Corporation, Van Wert. She was a devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert, where she was involved with many groups of the church including the Ladies Guild.

She was a graduate of Van Wert High School. She also spent many years living in Sebring, Fla., with her husband.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Philip Zielinski will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Preferred memorial is Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice or American Cancer Society.
