Phyllis Jean (Cryer) Rogers died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert.

She was born October 23, 1926, in Paulding County, the daughter of Leonard and Hulda Maye (Coil) Cryer, who both preceded her in death. In December 1944, she married Gordon O. Rogers, who died April 5, 1995.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith (Rogers) Dotson of Fort Jennings; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Evans) Byrne of Middle Point; four stepgrandchildren, James Dotson and Jennifer Dotson of Van Wert, Joshua Dotson of Huber Heights, and Katlynn Dotson of Middle Point; eight great-grandchildren, Carley Springer, Devann Springer, Rylee Byrne and Brooklyn Byrne, Destiny Coil and Peyton Evans, all of Middle Point, and Gabriel and Brayden Evans of Van Wert; eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Kelsey, Logan, Trey and Trevor Dotson of Van Wert, Nevaeh, Jacob, and Lilly Dotson of Huber Heights, and Conner Watkins of Middle Point; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Gary L. Rogers of Van Wert; one grandson, Jeff Evans of Middle Point; four brothers, Russell Cryer of Michigan, Raymond Cryer of Arizona, Howard Cryer of Montpelier, and Duane Cryer of Arizona; and three sisters, Lois Miller of New Haven, Indiana, Mary Manship of Columbus, and Sharon Hoffhines of Rockford, also preceded her in death.

A 1944 graduate of Van Wert High School, Phyllis was a homemaker and enjoyed driving a tractor and helping her husband and son on the family farm prior to her retirement. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Van Wert County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending their numerous sporting events, and spent many years working with her husband in the Farm Bureau food stand at the Van Wert County Fair.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: State of the Heart Hospice or Bethel United Methodist Church.
