CONVOY, Ohio a�" Ray Tinnel, 76, of Convoy, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born March 27, 1937, in Union County, Tenn., to the late Leona Tinnel and Roscoe Tinnel.
His wife, Diane (Jones) Tinnel, survives of Convoy. They were married May 12, 1958.
Other survivors include children: Brian (Julie Heath) Tinnel and Denise (Steve) Frey, both of Van Wert, Ohio, Laura (LeRoy) Lyons of Ohio City, Ohio, and Gary (Cindy) Tinnel and Dan (Jan Edwards) Tinnel, both of Convoy; brothers: Clyde (Joan) Tinnel and Donnie (Suzy) Tinnel; sisters: Juanita Rayfield, Wilma (Ken) Worthley, Joyce Hakes and Betty Wallis; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers: J.T. Tinnel and Floyd Tinnel and a sister: Sadie Baker-Gould.
He retired as associate dean of the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio. He had also previously worked at the Chrysler Amplex in Van Wert. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Convoy Lions Club and Van Wert American Legion and a 1956 graduate of Van Wert High School.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at Gearhart-Jurczyk Funeral Home, Convoy. The Rev. Gerald Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Convoy.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Van Wert Inpatient Hospice or Convoy E.M.S.
