VAN WERT, Ohio - Ray O. Zinn, 84, of Van Wert, died at 12:06 p.m. Sunday Aug. 7, 2011, at his residence with his children.
He was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Tully Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Eva M. (Osborn) Zinn and R.E. "Bud" Zinn. His wife, Becky (Hiatt) Zinn, died Jan. 23, 2010. They were married June 4, 1950.
Survivors include his children: Deborah J. (Ted) Lee and Kim L. (Georgette "Ge Ge") Zinn, both of Van Wert, and Deana R. (Nolan) Wolfe of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a brother: Carl C. Zinn of Bakersfield, Calif.; three granddaughters; two grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
He was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church, Van Wert. He was a lifetime farmer and had retired from Borden's Cheese and Aeroquip Corporation, both of Van Wert. Being an Eagle Scout, Ray was proud of his affiliation with Boy Scouts. He was a Little League Baseball coach and was affiliated with several hunting and sportsmen groups. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Clark Williman will officiate. Both Ray and Becky's cremated remains will be buried together at Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio, following the service. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the funeral home.
Ray's wish was for no flowers or plants, but instead preferred memorials be made to: Calvary Evangelical Church Community Outreach Team for those in need of food.
