Rex Allen Proxmire, 74, of Van Wert passed away at 7:20 PM on April 20, 2022 at his residence. He was born on July 29, 1947, in Paulding,  to his late parents, Darrell Proxmire and Thelma (Pease) Wausen. On April 28, 1998, he married the love of his life, Deborah (Price) Proxmire.

Rex was a 1965 graduate of Payne High School and went on to earn an Associates Degree from Ball State. Rex was a jack of all trades and worked at Greve Chrysler, Jeep Dodge Ram for many years.  In 2003, Rex and Deb moved to Ft. Myers, Florida. They returned to Van Wert in 2019 after Rex became ill.

A Street Rod enthusiast, he was the proud owner of a 1915 C-Cab which he built himself and displayed at car shows.

People may remember Rex from his days at the fair selling lemon shake ups at Rex's Shakeup or from his days playing bass guitar with the several bands he was in.  Or maybe they remember him from his Karaoke day's or from singing in the duet, "It takes Two '' with his wife, Deb, for over 25 years.  Whatever it was from, Rex always put a smile on peoples faces.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah Proxmire of Van Wert; son, Allen (Apple) Proxmire of Maryland; daughters: Tiffany (Keith) Theobald of Paulding; Anita Proxmire of New Haven, IN; Sherri (Patrick) Riley of Maryland; Dena (Andy) Tracey of Convoy; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Proxmire.
