VAN WERT - Rex E. Tomlinson, 83, of Van Wert, OH, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born February 13, 1928, in Ridge Township, Van Wert County, Ohio to John C. and Mary M. (Tribolet) Tomlinson, both of whom are deceased. He married Betty Lou (Stabler) Tomlinson on March 9, 1951. She survives in Van Wert.
Tomlinson is survived by his children, Brenda (Tom) Rhoades of Van Wert, Ohio and Dan Tomlinson of Kentucky; two brothers, Roger Tomlinson of Van Wert, Ohio and Dean Tomlinson of Van Wert, Ohio; a sister, Phyllis Lininger of Van Wert, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Betsy Rhoades; Damek, Beau, Duke and Brock Tomlinson.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Van Wert and was retired from Sonoco-Continental Can Company after 42 years of service. He also farmed.
Tomlinson was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War, a member of Van Wert American Legion and V.F.W. and Van Wert County Farm Bureau. He was an avid Van Wert Cougar Fan and a member of the Van Wert Cougar Booster Club.
A service will be held on Monday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home and Crematory in Van Wert, OH, with Rev. Greg Wack & Rev. Mary Ann Tomlinson officiating. A burial will follow at Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point, OH. Military Graveside services will be conducted by combined units of Van Wert American Legion and VFW posts.
Visitation will take place from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 17 at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Bethel United Methodist Church or Van Wert Inpatient Hospice or Van Wert Cougar Booster Club.
