Richard Dunlap

VAN WERT, Ohio - Richard F. "Dick" Dunlap of Van Wert, died at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born March 25, 1923, in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Alta (Kohn) Dunlap and Emmett Dunlap. He married Irene (Sealscott) Dunlap on June 22, 1947. She died Jan. 14, 1986.

Survivors include his children: Vickie (Michael) Woodruff of Van Wert and Susan (David) Bagley of Antwerp, Ohio; a brother: Rev. Howard (Ruth) Dunlap of Lake Worth, Fla.; his grandchildren: Jamie (David) Bradford, Traci (Ed) Carter and Tyson (Leslie) Bailey, all of Van Wert, Trisha (Jim) Fuller, Ryan (Kayla) Bagley, Ashley (Calvin) Bissell, all of Antwerp, Ohio: step-grandchildren: Michael Woodruff, Melissa (Nic) Clementz and Heather (Steve) Boroff; 13 great-grandchildren, and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Berl Dunlap.

He was a life member of Zion Christian Union Church, Grover Hill, Ohio. He was a lifetime farmer and a salesman for Montgomery Wards and F & S Floor Covering. He served as Jackson Township Clerk of Van Wert County and as Van Wert County Commissioner. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Marine Corps. He was a treasurer at the church for many years, loved Lincolnview sports and served as a scorekeeper for the away games for the basketball team for many years. He was the Red Cross Transportation Chairperson for many years, was a life member of the Van Wert Posts of the American Legion and VFW, and was a member of the Middle Point Lions Club.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Mark McKay will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, Ohio. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Van Wert Council on Aging OR Zion Christian Union Church.
