Richard W. "Beakie" Hoffhines, 84, of Rockford died Wednesday morning, July 20, 2016 at the Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford. He was born on November 11, 1931 to Donald and Elizabeth (Smith) Hoffhines in Rockford, Ohio. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1950, and on August 13, 1952, he married Sharon Joan Cryer. She preceded in death on March 2, 2007. He worked for over 37 years at Goodyear in St. Marys, Ohio. Beakie was a US. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Glenn D. Eckhart American Legion Post # 508 in Rockford and a member of the Rockford Fraternal Order of Eagles #1292 in Rockford, where he was the oldest living member. He loved to tinker with everything--small engines...everything that people would bring to him needing fixed. He enjoyed NASCAR and he loved spending time with his family. Surviving are three children: Dave (Donna) Hoffhines of Coldwater, Ohio; Randy (Kim) Hoffhines of Sycamore, Illinois; and Cyndi (Jim) Runneals of Rockford.; six grandchildren: Jodi (Doug) Zimmerman, Chadd (Krista) Dailey, Casey (Lisa) Hoffhines, Amy Hoffhines and her friend Vince Ormond, Kory Hoffhines and Lindsey (Riley) Muhlenkamp; and nine great grandchildren: Bryce Zimmerman, Olivia Zimmerman, Chloe Dailey, Javin Etzler, Kalen Etzler, Myia Etzler, Kylie Hoffhines, Camron Hoffhines, and Charlie Jo Ormond. He also has one brother, Jerry (Connie) Hoffines of Pinellas Park, Florida, and a sister, Jeanette (Phil) Freed of Maricopa, Arizona. Deceased, in addition to his wife Sharon, are his mother and father. Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., July 23, 2016, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford with military rites provided by the Eichar-De Curtins VFW Celina Post 5731. Friends may call from 2:00p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and on Saturday, one hour prior to the service. The Rockford Eagles will be having their service Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
