Richard Manken, 85, of Van Wert, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice, Van Wert.
He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Van Wert, to the late Velma (Farling) Manken and James Manken. His wife, Lou Easter (Clouse) Manken, preceded him in death.
He is survived by special friend Ellen Edwards; children: James (Joyce) Manken of Celestine, Ind., Sharon (Mearle Stone, Jr.) Stone of Stendal, Ind., and John (Carrol) Manken of Grove Spring, Mo.; brother: Gerald Manken of Van Wert; grandchildren: John D. Manken, Sharon M. Manken, Kelly Everhart, William Stone, Ronda Steward, Robert Hyde, and great-grandchildren: Alexandria Stone, Dillon Stone, Colton Stone, Livia Everhart, Jacob Everhart, Brandon Everhart, Shantara Steward, Rory Steward and Horizon Hyde.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Phyllis Gehres.
He retired from Borden Cheese, Van Wert. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and a member of Ohio City American Legion and Independent Order Of Odd Fellows.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Paul W. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
