Richard Shultz

VAN WERT, Ohio - Richard "Dick" Shultz, 77, Van Wert, died at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at his residence.

He was born July 5, 1934, in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late Blanche (Lamberjack) Shultz and Richard Shultz. He married Helen (Ellerbrock) on Aug. 31, 1957. She preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1975. He married Trina (Gamble) on Aug. 2, 1985, and she survives.

Other survivors include his children: Randy (Vickie) Shultz of Brookfield, Wis., Rhonda (Ray) Thomas of Owasso, Okla., Ron Shultz of Indianapolis, Ind., Rodney Shultz of Minster, Ohio, Tomi (Steve) Jaycox and Doug (Tammie) Weigle, both of Van Wert and Jessica (Tony) Thornton of Xenia, Ohio; his brothers: Gerald (Charlene) Shultz of Fostoria, Ohio, Thomas (Marcie) Shultz of East Granby, Conn., and Edward (Joyce) Shultz of Sylvania, Ohio; his sisters: Eleanor (Mel) Householder of Findlay, Ohio, Betty Sendelbach of Fostoria, Ohio; a sister-in-law: Louise Shultz of Findlay, and his grandchildren: Ashley, Joshua, Elizabeth, Steven, Margaret, Scott, Richard, Kyle, Demi, Alexis, Trevor, Jenna, Connor and Addison. He is also survived by 13 nieces and 14 nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother: David Shultz, and a brother-in-law: Pat Sendelbach.

He was a certified public accountant for Shultz, Huber and Associates. A member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, for 52 years, he served as both lector and eucharistic minister, was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, a school board member and served on finance committee for numerous years.

He was a Little League baseball coach for 13 years, a member of the former Van Wert Sertoma Club, served 21 years on Van Wert City Council and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Van Wert Jaycees and Van Wert Elks. He was a First Federal Savings Bank Board member, a former interim director of Economic Development Board, a Hospice volunteer through Community Health Professionals, received the Van Wert Chamber of Commerce Ray Miller Award and was Hospice Volunteer of the Year.

Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. Private family burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. There will be a wake service held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
