Robert James Karcher, 90, of Van Wert passed away on December 20, 2019 at Lima Memorial. He was born in Findlay to the late Raymond A. and Rosella (Keckler) Karcher.
Robert went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1949. He was stationed at Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL and served on the USS Dayton CL105 and the USS Missouri BB63. Upon being discharged from the Navy, he married the love of his life, Mary Brehm that same year. Together, they shared 70 years of marriage.
A longtime member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Robert was also a life member of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion. He retired as an accountant from Sunoco Fiber Drum after many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Karcher of Van Wert; daughter, Deborah (Herb) Metz of Port Charlotte, FL; sons: Raymond Karcher of Gallipolis ; Henry (Arminda) Karcher of Findlay; Michael (Jill) Karcher of Van Wert; grandchildren: Laura & Bob Collis, Jessica Metz, Tamara Karcher, Nathan (Reonna) Karcher, Nicole (Scott) Judd, Tiffany (Scott) Elchert, Drew (Renee) Karcher; great granchildren: Devon Morris, Kyla Morris, Axtyn Triesel, Saige Karcher, Jaelynn Karcher, Adelynn Karcher, Hannah Judd, Kylie Judd, Evan Elchert, Rowan Elchert &
Kendyn Karcher.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mia Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, December 27, 2019 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 601 Jennings Rd, Van Wert, OH 45891 with Rev. FR. Stan Szybka, celebrant.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the Mass, from 10 to 12 on Friday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert`s memory may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
