Roger Penn, 75, of Trotwood, Ohio, formerly of Rockford, Ohio, died January 12, 2017, at Friendship Village in Dayton, Ohio, where he had been a resident. He was born on July 11, 1941, the son of Edwin Frederick and Rebecca Cedell (Tussing) Penn, both who preceded him in death. Roger graduated from Rockford High School, and furthered his education by graduating with a BSED from Bowling Green University in 1963, a MSTH from Cornell University in 1967, and a PhD in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 1972. Roger accepted a position as a Chemistry Professor at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, in 1975 and retired after almost 34 years in 2009. Roger joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio, in 1977 and immediately joined the choir. In fact, he had been a member of a church choir ever since high school. In Rockford, he was a member of the former Rockford Presbyterian Church, where he also sang in the church choir. Throughout his life, he generously donated to many organizations which he found worthwhile. Surviving are a brother, Harold Penn of Celina, Ohio; a sister, Alice Penn of Rockford, Ohio; two nephews, John (Janeth) Penn of Jacksonville, Florida; and Nelson (Robyn) Penn of Powell, Ohio. Memorial services for Roger were held on January 22, 2017, in Dayton at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Ohio, at the convenience of the family.
