Russell Comer

Russell D. Comer, 68, of Grover Hill, died at 1:04 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Van Wert Hospital.

He was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Paulding County, Ohio, to the late Madeline (Rodman) Palte and John Comer. His stepdad, Ig Palte, is also deceased. His wife, Judith (Hirn) Comer, is deceased. They were married Nov. 3, 1984.

Survivors include his children: Pat Comer of Grover Hill (son), Chris (Paula) Comer of Middle Point, Shawn (Jody) Comer of Van Wert, Ohio, and Thomas (Tracy) Hirn of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother: Tim Palte of Haviland, Ohio; his best friend: his dog Buddy; grandchildren: Abbie Comer, Patrick Comer, Keeley Comer, Ariel Comer, Kristian Comer, Devin Hirn, Logen Hirn, Adrianna Hirn, Jacob Hirn, Braxton Hirn, Gavin Hirn, and a great-grandchild: Keegan Comer.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Harold Comer.

He retired from H.E. Orr Co. in Paulding, Ohio, having worked there for over 34 years and then after retirement he would deliver and pick up expedited shipments for the H.E. Orr Co. He attended Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, Van Wert. He had previously served on the Haviland Village Council.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Ron Lumm will officiate. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the American Cancer Society.
