Ruth L. (Mosier) Pond, 100, of Paulding, died at 2:35 AM, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Country Inn Enhanced Living Center in Paulding, Ohio. She was born May 3, 1917 in Paulding County to the late Fred and Bessie (Harris) Mosier.
Ruth attended school at the Haviland School and graduated in 1935. She always loved playing basketball and could hardly wait for the season to start. After graduating high school, she went to Fort Wayne to attend a school of cosmetology. She completed her schooling during the depression and no jobs were to be found.
On May 4, 1936, Ruth married Vernon O Pond and they were married for 78 years before he passed away in 2014. Vernon’s dad took the rest of the family and moved to Florida. Vernon and Ruth moved into the farm house and Vernon took over the farm.
Together they had four children: Maxine Pond of Van Wert, Ohio; Milford (Sherri) Pond of San Diego, California; Roger (Marianne) Pond of Seal Beach, California and Fred (Marcia) Pond of Scott, Ohio.
Ruth loved being a wife and mother. She helped on the farm, mostly preparing meals and often delivering them to the field to save time. She learned to sew and made most of their clothes. They lived by the old motto: Use It Up-Wear It Out-Make It Do-Or Do Without! In a few years things improved and they were able to see their children go to college.
Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star in Van Wert and served as Worthy Matron. She was very proud of her family and loved her children and grandchildren. Ruth would tell you “it was a good life.”
Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren: Lisa (Bobby) Kelly, Dan (Toni) Pond, Laura Doss, David Pond, Kere (Michael) Belding, Casey Pond, Mallory Pond, Kelly (Ashley) Pond, Rob Pond, Shelby Pond; great grandchildren: Berk (Ariellea) Pond, Chelsea Pond, Drew Hughes, Dylan Hughes, Robert Kelly, Victoria Kelly; great-great grandchildren: Brock, Teagen & Bella; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; brother, Herbert Mosier; half-siblings: Clay Mosier, Howard Mosier, Vilena Hartsell, Dorothy Auman, Frieda Lee and Amy Patterson.
There will be no public visitation or service. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery during a private family service.
Preferred Memorials: Scott EMS & Country Inn Activity Fund.
