Stanley Workman

VAN WERT, Ohio - Stanley Joe Workman, 72, Van Wert, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind.

He was born Jan. 6, 1939, in Spencerville, Ohio, to the late Mary Ruth (Shindollar) Workman and Charles K. Workman. His wife, Karen (Burnfield) Workman, survives of Van Wert. They were married Sept. 10, 1960. They had celebrated 51 loving years of marriage.

Other survivors include his children: Vicki (Ed) Stevens of Van Wert and Melissa Mace of New Haven, Ind.; his mother-in-law: Ruth Burnfield of Spencerville; brother-in-law: Roger Burnfield of Van Wert; sister-in-law: Janice Warnecke of Spencerville, and grandchildren: Adam, Nathan and Luke Stevens; Brooklyn and Brandilyn Mace.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Van Wert. Stanley retired from International Harvester in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Ohio City Manufacturing, Ohio City, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Navy; and a member of Willow Bend Country Club. He liked to restore old Cub Cadet garden tractors and loved being with grandchildren and attending all of their school and sporting events.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at First United Methodist Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Gus Christo-Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, Spencerville. Military graveside services will be conducted. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert, also one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Preferred memorial is American Heart Association or Phi Beta Psi sorority Van Wert, Ohio cancer fund.
