Stephen Cico

July 17, 1941 — December 3, 2018

Stephen Louis Cico, 77, of Bluffton, South Carolina, and formerly of Decatur, Indiana, died December 3, 2018, at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida.  Stephen had suffered a heart attack and fall while in Key West on a cruise with his wife, Carol, and was emergently airlifted to the trauma center in Miami.  Stephen was born in Lorain, Ohio, on July 17th, 1941, the son of Steve and Margaret (Golobich) Cico of Lorain, Ohio.  On August 28th, 1965, he married Carol Elaine Provci, formerly of Rockford, Ohio, and who survives in Bluffton, South Carolina. Carol is the daughter of the late John and Libby (Havlicek) Provci of Rockford.  He was married the day after graduating from The Ohio State University as a Registered Pharmacist.  While at OSU, Steve was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmacy Fraternity.  Steve was a Pharmacist and Manager of several local drug stores over the years, including Hook’s Drug Store, Revco, and CVS.  He retired 15 years ago and moved with Carol to Sun City Hilton Head to enjoy retirement.

Steve was a member of numerous tennis teams in Sun City Hilton Head.  He was Captain of a Sun City USTA Tennis Team which placed second in the State of South Carolina; in addition he was captain of many Sun City and other tennis teams.  He was a member of the United States Tennis Association, where he was ranked as a 3.5 player.  He was a member of the pickleball club in Sun City as well.  He loved cars and was a member of the Sun City Car Club, where he enjoyed showing his 1934 Frasier Nash, 1952 MGTD, 1968 Corvette Stingray 427, and 2007 Porsche Cayman S.  Steve was also an avid gardener with a green thumb inherited from his father, and he enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his plants and flowers.  Steve and Carol enjoyed traveling and going on cruises together.  His favorite cruises were to the South Pacific and the Mediterranean.

Surviving in addition to Carol are 2 sons:  Stephen John Cico, MD, MEd, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and David Christopher Cico, PhD, of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Catherine Marie Cico, PsyD, of Cocoa, Florida; and one grandchild, River Bass-Cico of Atlanta, Georgia.  River was the joy of his life, and when together, River was his constant buddy and companion.  They enjoyed model trains, riding in Grandpa's cars, crabbing and shrimping, and playing tennis and pickleball together.  Also surviving are a brother, Gary Cico of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and a sister, Marilyn Havas of Sheffield Village, Ohio.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Teresa Catholic Church outside of Rockford, with Father Vince Wirtner officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.  Friends may call at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home on Sunday, December 9th, from 2-5 p.m., followed by a Rosary Service at 5 p.m.
