Thomas Brown

Thomas C. Brown, 79, of Van Wert, died peacefully at his home on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.

He was born Sept. 9, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was raised in Chillicothe, Ohio. His mother: Hazel (Clark) Brown, stepmother: Carrie (Skinner) Brown and father: Thomas Nye Brown are deceased.

His mother-in-law, Irene Wortman, survives His father-in-law, Cleo Wortman, is deceased.

His wife, Leila (Wortman) Brown, survives of Van Wert, Ohio. They were married for over 52 years.

Other survivors include his children: Dr. Thomas L. (Denise) Brown of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Donald Leslie Brown of Van Wert; stepbrother: Norman Skinner of Florida; brothers-in-law: John (Phyllis) Wortman and Denzil (Kaulene) Wortman; sister-in-law: Gloria Wortman; grandchildren: Tarra (Shane) Waltmire of Van Wert and Thomas A. and Jenna E. Brown of Beavercreek, and great-grandchildren: Courtney, Saige and Addison Waltmire of Van Wert, and Colton and Alyssa Brown of Beavercreek.

He was preceded in death by a stepbrother: Jack Skinner, and a brother-in-law: Keith Wortman. He was also preceded in death by two aunts, five uncles and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was employed for 40 years at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. - the last several years he had worked in Lima, Ohio, at the service store. He had served in the United States Army for two years after graduating from The Ohio State University. Tom loved Ohio State football, basketball and The Ohio State University Marching Band.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial may be directed to the Van Wert American Legion Post.
