Thomas D. Rupert, 66, of Van Wert, passed away at 5:17 PM on April 11, 2021, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born on July 23, 1954, in Lima, to the late Admiral Dewey Rupert and Violet Evelyn (Scott) Rupert. On January 05, 1974, he married the Phyllis Ehrnsberger.
Thomas retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant and then worked as a mechanic for Store & Haul Trucking. He was a member of the Fox Hunter's Club and the NRA. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most recently, golfing, and was quick to help anyone in need.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Rupert of Van Wert; sons: Thomas (Shanika) Rupert II of North Carolina; David A. (Sheri) Rupert of Antwerp; Robert Lee (Cassie) Rupert of Van Wert; Jeremiah (Dawn Sneed) Rupert of Van Wert; brother, Jay Rupert of Indiana; Kathy Hurt of Van Wert; Robin Rupert of Illinois; father-in-law Don Ehrnsberger of Findlay; brothers-in-law: David Ehrnsberger, Don (Candy) Ehrnsberger, Randy (Betty) Ehrnsberger, all of Lima; 15 grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Betty Bailey; 5 sisters and one brother.
The family will receive from 3 to 6 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home 722 S. Washington St. Van Wert, OH 45891 with military honors rendered at 6 pm by the combined units of the Van WErt VFW and American Legion.
