VAN WERT, Ohio a�" Velma T. Shutt, 87, of Van Wert, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.

She was born April 26, 1927, in Payne, Ohio, to the late Hattie (Bowers) Sprague and John Sprague.

Her husband, Gaylord W. Shutt, survives of Van Wert. They were married May 28, 1949, in Payne, Ohio.

Other survivors include children: Carl (Laurie) Shutt of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Jay (Cheryl) Shutt of Marion, Ohio, Janis (John) Mathews and Max (Sally) Shutt, both of Van Wert, Nan (Kenneth) Eubank of Huntertown, Indiana, Mark (Sandi) Shutt of Van Wert, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son: Paul Shutt, a brother who died in infancy, and her sisters: Virginia Roberts, Samantha Cluts and Rebecca Kipfer.

She was a homemaker and ran the A&W Root Beer stand on St. Rt. 127 South. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. She was also a member of the church Altar & Rosary Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and a life member of the Van Wert VFW and American Legion Auxiliary posts.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert. The Rev. Stan Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in Convoy IOOF Cemetery, Convoy, Ohio.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. A rosary service is planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.
