Velma Waltz

VAN WERT, Ohio - Velma M. Waltz, 78 years, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 18, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

She was born on May 15,1933, in Van Wert County, to the late Dale and Goldie (Zinn) Duncan. On Jan. 23, 1960, she married Bernard Waltz and he survives in Van Wert. Other survivors include a son: Patrick (Sarah Mensing) Waltz of Van Wert, and a daughter: Lori (Jeff) Wermer of Convoy. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Andrew (Leah) Wermer and Kelsy Wermer as well as a brother: William (Karen) Duncan and sisters: Eleanor (Dean) McComber and Mary Evans.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Patti Kay Waltz; a granddaughter: Lindsay Ann Wermer; twin sisters: Laverne Reed and LaVonne Carrier; brother-in-law: Ray Carrier; nephews: David Reed and Eric Ross, and a niece: Beth Bissonette.

She was employed at Capehart-Farnsworth in Ft. Wayne, Ind., the US Post Office in Convoy, Ohio, and retired from the Aeroquip Corp. in Van Wert after 19 years of service.

She was a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and TWIG I. In Florida,A� she was involved in Red Hatters of Forest Park and served as the secretary for the Ohio Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends both in Ohio and Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert with the Revs. Ron Lumm and Paul Miller officiating. Burial will take place at the Convoy IOOF cemetery in Convoy.

Friends and family may call from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Pleasant Chapel UM Church.
