Vera Ellen Huffman, 89, North Manchester, IN, formerly of Clearwater, Florida, Lima Ohio, and Mendon, Ohio, passed away on March 15, 2014 in North Manchester. She was born March 25, 1924 in Neptune, Ohio to Floyd George and Doris Loree Harruff Young. She married William Ream Huffman on August 15, 1942 who preceded her in death in 1994.
Surviving are two children; William Lee (Darlene) Huffman of Jacksonville, FL and Rebecca Loree Huffman of Fort Wayne, IN, three grandsons; Brett (Leslie) Huffman of Cary, N.C, Brian Huffman of Atlanta, GA, and David (Lucy) Buerger of Miami, FL, six great-grandchildren, one sister; Suzanne (Don) Bauman of Mt. Gilead, OH, Sisters-in-law; Betty Lou Young of Celina, OH and Ruthann Huffman McCullough of Arlington, TX, Cousin; Dortha Hays Baer, of Celina, OH, Special Nieces, Kathy Kay Young (Chris) Garber of North Manchester and Cynthia L Huffman, of Clearwater, FL. and many other wonderful nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Besides her husband, William, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Lynn, 2007, her sister June Davis, 1993, and her dear brother Richard Lee Young, November, 2013.
Vera was a 1942 graduate of Mendon Union High School where she was a cheerleader and sang in the choir. She especially liked math which helped her in raising her children and working as a head cashier at JC Penney Co.
She was a long time and active member of Northwood Presbyterian in Clearwater, FL where she was a member of the Chancel Choir for over 15 years and involved in Christian education and leadership. Her previous churches were Calvary Presbyterian in Fort Wayne, IN and Forest Park United Methodist in Lima, OH.
Vera loved music from Broadway musicals to classical to modern. She used her singing talents in her church choirs and for all who visited her during her last weeks. Her love of travel and art are well spelled out in her photo albums and memory books, in which she took great pride. Her most recent interests included scrapbooking, jigsaw puzzles, and Sudoku. She enjoyed baseball, especially following her favorite Tampa Bay Rays.
A Memorial service, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating, is planned for, Saturday, March 22, at 11:00 A.M. at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, 111 West First Street, Rockford, Ohio 45822. Burial will be in the Mendon Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
