Vernon Larry Brodbeck, 71, of Celina, Ohio, died at 2:24 p.m., on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio, where he was a patient. He was born on February 2, 1943, in Celina, Ohio, to Vernon Gerald and Helen (Harms) Brodbeck. On February 5, 1966, he married Nicholl "Nickie" Holaday, and she survives in Celina. Larry was an engineer with General Telephone Company, Celina, retiring after 28 years of employment. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was very active, and enjoyed golfing and being with his good friends. He was a member of the Mendon United Methodist Church, the Celina VFW #5713, the Celina American Legion, Post #210, the Celina Eagles, and the Mercer County Sportsman Club. Surviving along with his wife, Nickie, are two children: Vernon (Carrie) Brodbeck of Chickasaw, Ohio and Michelle (Gary) Sharp of Neptune, Ohio. Vernon was fortunate to also have six grandchildren: Chessey Brodbeck, Vernon Cody Brodbeck, Colton Brodbeck, Cennedy Brodbeck, Alissa Sharp and Devin Sharp. Vernon had four syblings: Bing (Kathy) Schmidt of Celina, Ohio; Michelyn (Danny) Phillips of Livingston, Tennessee; and Max Brodbeck of Montezuma, Ohio, who survive, and Hugh Brodbeck, who preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held this Sunday, August 17, at 4:00 p.m. at the Celina VFW #5713, in Celina, Ohio. Military rites will be held at this time. Friends and family are invited to share in this service of remembrance and celebration of his life. Military honors will be held at this time for Larry, who was a U.S. Army veteran.
