SCOTT, Ohio a�" Vernon O. Pond, 101, of Scott, died at 8:43 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Country Inn Living Center, Latty, Ohio.

He was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Myrtle (Weyer) Pond and Omar Pond.

His wife, Ruth (Mosier) Pond, survives. They were married May 4, 1936.

Other survivors include children: Maxine Pond of Van Wert, Ohio, Milford (Sherri) Pond of San Diego, California, Roger (Marianne Renz) Pond of Seal Beach, California, and Fred (Marcia) Pond of Scott; half-brothers: Ray (Nancy) Pond of Tallahassee, Florida, and Richard Pond of Chattahoochee, Florida; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Dorothy Foust, and half-sisters: Aileen Barley, Mary Pond and Eleanor Long.

He was a lifetime farmer and second generation owner of Pond Seed Company, Scott. Vernon was proud of his family. His biggest wish was they would all have a college degree. He lived to see that become a reality. Then he started working on the grandchildren and they are on their way. Vernon loved visiting with people. In his later years he loved to sit in one of the chairs in front of Pond Seed Company and talk with everyone who came by. Vernon Pond thought Scott, Ohio was the center of the universe! He was a graduate of Haviland School, a 32nd degree Mason, member of Van Wert Masonic Lodge, K.Y.C of Honor, Zenobia Shrine Temple, past president of Scott Lions Club, former member of Paulding National Guard, Scott Equity Exchange Board of Directors, past president of both the Ohio and International Flying Farmers Association. He had also attended International Business College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

A Masonic funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. Private family burial will take place at Scott Cemetery, Scott. Visitation is 12 - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is Scott E.M.S. or Scott Lions Club or Country Inn Activities Fund.
