Virgil B. Spearman

Virgil B. "Ben" Spearman, 85, of Van Wert passed away at 5:00 AM on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Van Wert Manor. He was born on November 26, 1936, in Van Wert, the son of the late Virgil and Lucille Spearman. On July 14, 2010, he married the the former Vina (Taylor). Together, they shared 22 years of memories.

He retired from the United States Navy and Merchant Marines. He served during the Vietnam War.

Ben was a member of the Van Wert American Legion.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved the ocean.

Surviving are his wife, Vina Spearman of Van Wert; his children, Shirley (Jason) Bigelow, William (Nicole) Blair and Danny (Colleen) Blair, Jr. all of Van Wert; 5 grandchildren, Bradley, Aslin, Angela, Kerrianne and Peyton; 6 great grandchildren, Eleanor, Noah, Charlotte, ALeah, Fred and Gunner; a sister, Sharon Gipe of Van Wert; and 2 nephews, Craig Workman of Van Wert and Steve Workman of Ft Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley.

Services will be held at 12:00 PM, on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Ben Brown, officiating. Private Interment, with military honors, will take place at a later date in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
