Virginia Hunt died Sunday, March 27, after complications from a fall. She was a resident of Greenbelt, Md. since 1955.
Virginia Giffin was born in 1921 in a farmhouse in Hoaglin-Jackson Township near Van Wert, Ohio. As an only child, she helped her father with the chores on the farm. She became a member of the 4-H, like her mom. She worked her way through school and earned a B.A., in home economics at Ohio State University. There she met her husband, Howard Hunt. They married and lived on campus.
They moved to Maryland in 1955. They settled into the community with their family of boys. Virginia took a job as church secretary for Mowatt United Methodist Church.
Virginia became involved in the church. Her involvement with the church included writing and editor of the church newsletter, she was a member of the choir, and an organizer and volunteer for fund raisers for the church.
She also became a den mother with Cub Scout Pack 746 which was sponsored by the church. She earned the highly coveted Silver Beaver award and Wood Badge from the Boys Scouts of America.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her son, Stephen, and his wife, Melinda: and her son, Christopher, and his wife, Rene. She is also survived by her grandsons, Stephen Hunt, Jr., James Coyner III, Jesse Coyner, and great-granddaughters, Taylor Coyner and Kaylee Coyner.

There will be calling from noon until the service at 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. The Rev. Mary Ann Tomlinson will officiate.
