Wilbur Eddy

Wilbur D. Eddy, 93, of Van Wert, died at 6:01 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Van Wert Hospital.

He was born July 20, 1920, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to the late Syvilla (Poling) Eddy and William R. Eddy.

On Feb. 14, 1941, he married Grace Irma (Schnepp) Eddy. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1977. Then on March 1, 1980, he married Joan (Meyers) Eddy. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2013.

Survivors include children: Leslie (Judy) Eddy of Haviland, Ohio, Stanley (Christine) Eddy of Delaware, Ohio; stepchildren: Eugene (Drema) Arn and James (Diane) Arn, both of Grover Hill, Ohio, and Helen (Gordon) Fuerst of Delphos, Ohio; brothers: Harold (Pauline) Eddy of Convoy, Ohio, and Lloyd (Lois) Eddy of Grover Hill; four grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters: Norma Good and Geneva Kimmey.

He was a retired lifetime farmer in Van Wert and Paulding counties. He attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Van Wert.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Medical Corps where he served in the D-Day invasion and earned the Bronze Star Medal for heroism. He was a member of Van Wert County Farm Bureau and Convoy American Legion.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Van Wert. The Revs. Will Haggis and Wayne Karges will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, also one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may directed to Gideon's International or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
