HAVILAND, Ohio - William A. Carpenter, Sr., 65, of Haviland, Ohio, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 12, 1946, in Continental, Ohio, to the late Maggie E. (Scott) Carpenter and James L. Carpenter. His wife, Jeannie A. (Timbers) Carpenter, survives in Haviland.
Other survivors include his children: Sherry Moyer of Van Wert, Ohio, Linda Moyer of Decatur, Ind., Crystal (Marty Thompson) Carpenter and Samantha Carpenter, both of Convoy, Ohio; brothers: Rodger (Jerri) Carpenter and Danny (Rhonda) Carpenter, both of Payne, Ohio, Scott (Linda) Carpenter of Convoy and Ty Carpenter of Payne; sisters: Rebecca (Bud) Conley of Payne, Patsy Mayers of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Robin (Lee Eaton) Carpenter of Decatur, Ind.; seven grandchildren: Johnathon Coyne, Mark Gillette, II, Megan Gillette, Allen Debacher, Elizabeth Debacher, Christopher Carpenter and Tiffany Thompson, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children: William A. Carpenter, II and William A. Carpenter, III, and a sister: Minerva Carpenter.
He was a groundskeeper at Wayne Trace High School and served in the US Army during the Vietnam era.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory, Van Wert. The Rev. Steve Waterman will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Military graveside service will be conducted by the Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the funeral home.
